Exterior Oils
Exterior Oils
Treatex Exterior Oils are manufactured on a base of natural sustainable raw materials including Sunflower oil, Soy-bean oil, natural waxes and are free of toxic substances. Treatex Exterior Oils are the ideal new or renovation finish for decking, cladding, doors, windows, garden structures and other exterior joinery. Treatex Exterior Oils penetrate deeply into timber surfaces and in a similar way to bark, attach to the wood capillaries providing protection against extreme climate conditions through a highly water repellent, weather and UV* resistant surface that can prevent the formation of cracks and swelling in the surface after treatment.
*please note: Clear is not a UV protective finish and timbers treated only with Clear will break down and bleach in sunlight much quicker than any of the other options in the range. Clear should only be used to overcoat one of the colour options in the Exterior Oils range. For a near clear finish with UV protection, please use ‘Sheer’ or for the best protection, use one of our more pigmented options.

Prep/Application
Preparation
Treatex Exterior Oils work best on unfinished timbers. Exotic and pressure treated timbers should be allowed to weather for approximately 3 months before finishing. Previous finishes which stop Exterior Oils penetrating into the timbers e.g. paints and other ‘closed/non porous’ finishes, must be fully removed prior to application. Previous porous finishes should be lightly sanded before over coating. When over coating a previously finished surface, a trial application is essential. Flaking or peeling finishes must be fully removed prior to application. Ensure the timber is dry and free from possible contaminates e.g. algae, grease, dirt, dust etc. Timbers susceptible to mould and fungi should be treated first with a suitable preservative. We advise that when using Exterior Oils, sufficient product is purchased to complete the whole project and when more than one tin is required it is advisable to mix them together before use. The timber must have a moisture content below 18% and the ambient temperature must be between 8oC and 25oC during application and drying. We strongly recommend a trial application prior to starting the project.
Application
Stir tins thoroughly, before and during use. Use a brush, roller or good quality spray gunto evenly apply Treatex Exterior Oils in the same direction as the wood grain. Pay particular attention to the end grain, where you should apply liberally. After approximately 12 hours the first coat can be overcoated. Apply with a brush or roller a second coat of Exterior Oils. After the second coat leave for approximately 12 hours to dry. A third coat can be applied if deemed necessary. Finishing with Exterior Oils Clear will add further protection against wear and abrasion. For decking, we recommend applying Treatex Anti-slip Decking Oil. Treatex Exterior Oils are not a surface building product, please don’t apply too thickly!
