Wood Preserver & Other Ways To Treat Exterior Wood

Wood Preserver & Other Ways To Treat Exterior Wood

Wood preservers, treatments and oils are essential in preventing premature degradation and disintegration of your timbers and other woods, helping to protect against the threat of mould, algae and fungi leading to rot.

In this complete guide, we provide helpful advice on wood preserves and treatments, offering key insight into their benefits and applications, as well as highlighting Treatex’s most important wood preserves, treatments and oils available from our store.

Treating Exterior Wood

Treating your exterior wood and timbers is incredibly important. Doing so will help to reduce the impacts of weathering, fungi and even rot and deterioration. These issues can be easily prevented with the right exterior wood treatment and wood preservers, and below, we outline some of Treatex’s most important exterior wood treatment products.

UV Oil/Exterior Oils

Much like people, too much time spent in the sunshine can have a lasting impact on your exterior wooden surfaces, leading to an increased risk of discolouration and deterioration. This is where Treatex UV Oil comes in.

A simple and effective treatment for your exterior timber surfaces, UV Oil is designed to provide resistance to the bleaching effects of harsh Ultra Violet rays brought on by the sun. Penetrating deep into the surfaces of timber wood, UV Oil will attach to the capillaries, offering the utmost protection from the impact of sunshine.

An ideal treatment for the majority of vertical timber surfaces, such as doors, windows, clagging and exterior joinery, Treatex UV Oil will protect your exterior surfaces for the foreseeable future; made from refined natural oils including sunflower and soybean.

Similarly, if you’re looking for quality exterior oils that offer UV protection and water/weather resistant protection, Treatex Exterior Oils are ideal for decking, wooden doors and exterior joinery, preventing the formation of cracks and swelling.

Teak Protection/Douglas Fir Protection

Best suited for the protection of exterior surfaces such as wooden garden furniture or boat deck protection, Teak Protection offers similar qualities to most exterior wood preservers, helping to protect against UV rays and offering waterproofing qualities. However, Treatex Teak Protection requires a wet-on-wet application, instead of allowing each coat to completely dry first, ensuring the UV protection provided is vastly superior to that of other products.

Manufactured from a base of natural, sustainable raw materials, such as linseed and sunflower oil, Teak Protection is highly similar to Douglas Fir Protection, which itself is made from linseed, sunflower and soybean oils. Treatex Douglas Fir Protection is a solvent-free exterior wood finish designed to provide long-lasting weather, water and UV protection.

Cedar Oil/Grey Cedar Oil

Designed to combat the effects of the most extreme of conditions, Treatex Cedar Oil is designed to handle almost any climate, attaching to the timber capillaries and offering protection against wind, rain and even snow. Best suited for timbers such as Cedar and Larch, we also provide Treatex Grey Cedar Oil, offering similar applications, but with the additional quality of immediately enhancing the colour of your cedar to enhance its natural greyish colour that appears with age.

Larch Oil

Similar to the above, Larch Oil is composed of sunflower oil, safflower oil and soybean oil to provide the necessary levels of protection to fight against the impacts of extreme climate conditions on both cedar and larch. Attaching to the wood capillaries, Treatex Larch Oil is UV and water resistant and ideal for cladding, windows and doors.

External Oak Colours

Developed as a base coat to help treat Oak and other timbers and composed of a number of natural sustainable oils such as modified alkyd resin and linseed oils, Treatex External Oak Colours (Virgin & Regency), are also aided by the addition of siccatives, which help to provide faster drying times. Suitable for indoor and outdoor use, Treatex External Oak Colours are UV and water resistant when finished with our very own Treatex UV Oil, as mentioned above.

We provide both Virgin Oak and Regency Oak colour variations, with Virgin considered a ‘Light Oak’, and Regency considered a ‘Medium Oak’.

Anti-Slip Decking Oil

Ideal for new or freshly painted decking, steps and wooden walkways, anti-slip decking oil is designed to help reduce the risk of accidents or injuries related to slipping on exterior wooden surfaces. This is a common issue with wooden surfaces such as decking, which, without treatment, can be prone to an accumulation of moisture, moss, algae and lichens.

As part of our superior Exterior Oil collection, we’re proud to supply Treatex Anti Slip Decking Oil, manufactured on a base of all-natural and entirely sustainable raw materials including Soybean Oil and Sunflower Oil, ensuring they are entirely free of toxic substances.

Classic Colour Collection

An incredibly durable, easy-to-apply finish for all types of timber, Treatex Classic Colour Collection is one of our finest-quality finishes ideal for use on opaque wood. Composed from a formula tried and tested in extreme conditions, such as mountainous and coastal regions, our Classic Colour Collection finish is made from a range of natural, sustainable and entirely raw materials such as soybean, sunflower oil, bee and carnauba wax to provide incredible UV and water resistance all-year-round.

Eco-Colours

An environmentally-friendly, water-based paint, Treatex Eco Colours was designed to combat increasingly stringent, yet necessary, criteria surrounding the solvents and harmful VOCs used in wood finishes. Entirely odourless, and made from refined natural oils and resins all extracted from renewable sources, our Eco Colour paint is both weather and water-resistant.

Capable of offering incredible UV protection, thanks to its microporous, water-repellent finish, which itself is entirely solvent-free, Treatex Eco Colours is ideal for most timber surfaces, offering excellent adhesion, fast drying and durability.

Exterior Cleaning & Preservation

Below, we take a closer look at our Exterior Cleaning and Wood Preserver treatments for your exterior timbers.
